April is national Heartworm Awareness Month.  This is  a great time for testing and to ask your veterinarian about prevention.  According to the American Heartworm Society, "heartworms have spread to every state in the U.S. as well as many other countries worldwide."
In April, the AHS (American Heartworm Society) will unveil a new heartworm incident map.  This is derived from data from veterinary practices and shelters.  This information will demonstrate the growth of positive heartworm cases in the United States, and help owners to better understand the need for testing and prevention.
Many veterinary hospitals are providing discounts on testing or prevention during the month of April.  This is a great time to get begin your pets protection, as we move into the warmer spring and summer months.
